"I Bet You Look Expert on the Dancefloor" is a vocal by English rock ring Arctic Monkeys. The song was released through Domino Recording Company as the band'southward first single from their debut studio album, Whatever People Say I Am, That'due south What I'm Not (2006). It debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart on 23 Oct 2005, and remains one of the ring's best-known songs in the United kingdom.
Arctic Monkeys performed the track at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics. The song was ranked at number vii on NME 's listing of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Music video [edit]
The video is a alive recording of the band playing the song in a studio with a small audience watching with both the video and audio taken alive. Alex Turner introduces the ring and the song and asks viewers non to "believe the hype" of the vocal.[five] The video was shot using 3 Ikegami 3-tube color television cameras from the 1980s[6] to requite it a more than aged effect.

On 23 February 2006, the rail won Best Track at the 2006 NME Awards—one of 3 awards won by Arctic Monkeys.[7]
I of the B-sides, "Chun-Li's Spinning Bird Kick", was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in the 2007 Grammy Awards.
In October 2011, NME placed it at number 11 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years".[8] It was after ranked seventh on their list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Fourth dimension," with NME noting that the song is "the perfect encapsulation of what it is to be young, pissed, lusty, angry and skint in modern day Britain."[ix]

The song was covered past Sugababes as a B-side to their single "Red Apparel".
The Vines released a cover of the song as a bonus rails on the Japanese edition of their album Future Primitive, released three June 2011.
The song was covered by the group Baby Charles and released as a single in 2009.[33]
On 1 July 2007, Tom Jones and Joe Perry of Aerosmith performed their own version of the song at the Concert for Diana at Wembley Stadium.[ commendation needed ]
In May 2007, NME magazine placed "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" at number x in its list of the fifty Greatest Indie Anthems Ever.[34]
In Feb 2008, Alan Wilder, the former member of Depeche Mode, criticised the mastering of the song in an open up letter on the Side-Line Magazine website.[35] He described its audio as "a bombardment of the nigh unsubtle, ane-dimensional noise."
The line "Your proper name isn't Rio, simply I don't care for sand" is a reference to Duran Duran's song "Rio". This is the first of 2 references to Duran Duran in the band's lyrics, the second one appearing in the song "Teddy Picker" from their second album Favourite Worst Nightmare.
On 27 July 2012, the band played the song at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening anniversary.[ citation needed ]
